Introducing Emily Banks, founder of London-based recruitment enterprise, Stack Recruitment.
Stack are a recent start-up service for autistic adults looking to find a career path that best suits their interests and needs in the nation's capital.
The company also works with employers to develop the inclusivity of their workplace; offering a streamlined job listing service for employers to advertise roles for autistic adults.
Last Wednesday I travelled to Stack's London Bridge HQ to meet Emily and discuss her work in the field of recruitment and the challenges she has faced along the way.
"The main aim (of Stack) is to get more autistic adults into meaningful employment." Emily said.
"Meaningful employment is something that people are really passionate to do, obviously long term, on their chosen career path and something they would ideally want to do."
Emily's father and brother are both on the spectrum, meaning she has seen the challenges that autistic people can face in the working world throughout her life. This has since acted as an inspiration and motivation behind the project.
"The reason my brother and father have been so successful now is because they really had that support network from my family.
"I think a lot of that is not there for everyone and everyone should be given that same opportunity to have that support network there."
She believes the main barrier preventing autistic adults from finding a career is the outdated recruitment processes used by employers.
Speaking on this issue, Emily said: "It comes back to the whole thing of traditional recruitment methods. Many people that I speak to just say that they aren't favourable towards our way of thinking and doing.
"Obviously a lot of recruitment nowadays revolves around being sociable and being very confident. These sort of traits are not as prevalent within an autistic individual."
