Since the beginning of this project, I've considered it an absolute necessity to interview someone directly changing perspectives of ASD in the workplace - campaigning and guiding employers to change for the better - to make workplaces more accommodating for those with the condition.
Introducing Thomas Cliffe, director of TRACK Northampton, a social enterprise working with businesses to increase employer understanding of ASD and to make workplaces more accessible for those with it.
Thomas is vastly experienced in this bracket; previously working as a teacher in special needs education for 11 years. In his online profile, he describes himself as having "a passion about helping people access employment" - which is why TRACK have their own cafe in Northampton which offers real working placement experiences for those on the spectrum looking to hone their working skills.
Today I spoke to Thomas over the phone to tell him a bit more about the project and to get a bit more clarity of what he does.
On Monday I'll be travelling up to the cafe to meet Thomas on a typical working day, to get a feel for the fantastic work that TRACK do, but also to discuss all things employers and workplaces - exploring what it takes for a business to become a truly ASD friendly environment.
You can listen to a short clip from my conversation with Thomas below.
More to follow.
